Orientation 

            The Book of Life is a film which is produced in 2014 by Guillermo Del Toro. Directed by Jorge R. Gutierrez, this film is a collaboration between Reel FX. Production and Twentieth Century Fox.  The Book of Life is a cartoon film with a mystical touch.

Interpretative Recount  

      

The story begin when Kate del Castillo as La Muerte, ruler of the cheery land of the remembered make a deal with Ron Perlman as Xibalba, ruler of the dour land of the forgotten. They bet with their choices whose man between Manolo (Diego Luna) or Joaquin (Channing Tatum) could win Maria’s heart and marry her. La Muerte bet Manolo can win this game, but on the other hands Xibalba choose Joaquin.

            The triangle love between Manolo, Joaquin, and Maria continue until Maria come back from Spain, Europe. Their struggle to win Maria’s heart become stronger.  But, when Manolo get Maria’s heart, Joaquin propose Maria with her father agreement.

            Xibalba turns into a cheat man, he use his power to solve his worry by the bite from his snake. Maria who has the snake’s bite, become a sleeping beauty. But, Manolo thought that Maria was dead. So, Xibalba deceive him to enter the land of the remembered to seek Maria. Manolo’s struggle never end. When he know that Xibalba cheating, he tried to get his life back. When his  wish granted, he  tried to protect his town from Chakal  with his whole family support. At the end of this movie, Manolo wins over Chakal and he find his happiness with Maria. 

Evaluation

            This film is very unique because the animation designs draw upon the familiar wooden folk-art. The Book of Life which is produce in Dallas, tell us a story  about the Mexican tradition in the day of death. This film also interest us with the colorful character in the cheery land of the remembered.
